Buhari,Tinubu, Seyi Makinde, Others Console Ajimobi Family

It is no longeer news that former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is dead. The septuagenarian had earlier been reported that he had slipped into coma as a result of complications arising from the coronavirus and later rumoured to have kicked the bucket. In a swift response to the death rumour, the family most especially his daughter, Fatima Ganduje-Ajimobi came out to denied the rumour. But for a man who once prayed to die at 70 is like a dream comes through as he was later pronounced dead after a week he was rumour to have died.  In a viral video, the former senator, was seen in a radio show that aired on Splash FM during the Ramadan season saying he wanted to die after 70 because his own father died two months before his 70th birthday. According to him “When I was 40, I started telling God that when I clock 70, it is enough,” he told the Imams in Yoruba Language.

Meanwhile, according to some party members, the news of Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s death came at a time his leadership and experience as an astute administrator is needed. After his death was made public, Ajimobi sterling leadership qualities and his role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress was loud by members of his party, friends and political associate asking the family to take solace in his rich legacies and accept the sad development as the will of God.

President Muhammadu Buhari extends his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State on the death of former Oyo State governor, Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, who contributed to the development of the state and nation, will be commemorated. Buhari also extended his condolences to the family of the former governor who succeeded in winning the governorship election; making progress and working hard in the ranks of those who served the party wholeheartedly saying “Ajimobi left the world at a time when the right-wing parties needed to make progress and uncertainty is a pain to his closest allies, especially the party, APC.”

According to governor of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, “I was so sorry to hear the news of the passing away of the immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi. I cannot begin to imagine the pain the family must be going through at this time because of the loss of their patriarch. It is my prayer that God grants them all the strength to bear this great loss.”

Plateau State Governor and Chairman; Northern Governors Forum Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has expressed deep shock over the demise of former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi. Governor Lalong in a condolence message on behalf of the Forum described the late Ajimobi as a man of integrity who served the people of Oyo State and Nigeria with excellence.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the death of the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi as a great loss to his family, the people of Oyo State and the country as a whole.
The Governor added that he is saddened by the loss.

However, the National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said he has lost “a dedicated friend, brother and ally”, as he lamented Abiola Ajimobi’s death.

“I had hoped that we could achieve more together but the ultimate wisdom and all our fates rest in the hands of Almighty Allah who knows best.

“We shared a common progressive vision for our country and how to bring prosperity, justice and hope to its people”, Tinubu said.

Ajimobi, born 16 December 1949, was formerly the managing director/chief executive officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria. He left the oil sector in 2002 after 26 years, and was elected in 2003 as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Oyo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). After one term in the senate, he contested in 2007 for the governorship of Oyo state under the banner of the All Nigeria People’s Party, a bid which he lost. He re-contested again in the April 2011 elections under the Action Congress of Nigeria and was elected Governor of Oyo State in a closely contested vote
