Nigerian singer and actor Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, recently opened up about his close relationship with Nollywood star Funke Akindele, praising her work ethic and drive. In a candid interview with Chude Jideonwo, Falz described their connection and highlighted Akindele as one of the most dedicated individuals in the entertainment industry.
He particularly lauded her for her hard work as both an actress and a producer, noting that her industriousness stands out in Nigeria’s competitive showbiz scene. “I don’t think I’ve ever crossed paths with any other entertainer in this country who is more hard-working than she is,” he said.
Falz recalled the early stages of their collaboration, when Akindele reached out to him via social media. “I remember Funke Akindele, a big shout out to her, by the way; she had reached out to me maybe by Instagram or something,” he shared, referring to a time when the actress was working on a new project. Falz explained that Akindele had watched some of his videos and was impressed with his work, which led to her inviting him to join her on the project. “She was working on something and wanted me to join her,” he added.
The collaboration occurred before the iconic TV show Jennifer’s Diary became a household name. Falz noted that at the time, the popular series did not yet exist, and that the entertainment landscape was different from what it is today. “There was no such thing as Jennifer’s Diary; it wasn’t real,” Falz remarked, pointing out the humble beginnings of the Nollywood star’s career and the visionary work that led to her eventual success.
Falz also praised Akindele’s ability to juggle multiple roles in the industry, from acting to producing, describing her as an inspiration for other entertainers. The singer highlighted how Akindele’s hard work had a significant impact on him, revealing that her dedication is something he holds in high regard. “She had watched some of those videos, and she was working on something and wanted me to join her,” he added, reflecting on the mutual respect they have for one another.
