Food Critic, Opeyemi Famakin  Sparks Controversy with a second Review from Cubana Chief Priest’s Restaurant

Popular Nigerian food critic, Opeyemi Famakin, has once again stirred controversy with a critical review of Jollof rice he purchased from ‘Donald’s Restaurant,’ a popular eatery owned by celebrity barman Cubana Chief Priest. Famakin, known for his candid and often blunt food reviews, shared his thoughts in a recent video on his Instagram account, which has since gone viral.

In the video, Famakin, accompanied by a snapshot of a heated exchange with Cubana Chief Priest, revealed a recent confrontation between the two. According to Famakin, the celebrity restaurateur had threatened him after he posted an earlier critical review of food from his restaurant. The message read: “Broke food critic wey na only burger e fit afford, others dey buy the whole food wey deh the restaurant and have a feel of them all as they drop their opinion. No free food e pain am. Make I catch am near any of my outlet again nationwide na then him go understand the full meaning of boundaries.”

Despite the threat, Famakin proceeded to review the Jollof rice he had his director purchase from ‘Donald’s Restaurant’. In his review, the food critic expressed disappointment with the dish, stating that the rice was “dry” and “not well made.” Famakin also involved his director, who gave his own verdict, describing the rice as having a stale taste.

The criticism didn’t stop there. Famakin further elaborated on his genuine disappointment with the quality of the meal, making it clear that his review was not a personal attack on Cubana Chief Priest but an honest assessment of the food. He emphasized that he had no intention of targeting the celebrity businessman but was simply doing his job as a food critic. “The review is genuine. It’s not aimed at attacking anyone personally,” Famakin said.
