Governor Soludo Confident in Re-election Bid, Dismisses Competitors

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has expressed confidence in his re-election bid for the November 8, 2025 governorship election, stating that he sees no competent opponent challenging him. Speaking during a media chat on the occasion of his third anniversary in office, Soludo emphasized that there is a consensus among the people of Anambra that his administration has delivered tangible benefits, warranting another opportunity for his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to continue governing the state.

According to Soludo, the people of Anambra may vote for different parties during national elections, but they remain loyal to APGA when it comes to the governorship and local government chairmen seats. He stressed that this loyalty is based on the party’s track record of delivering dividends of democracy to the state. “If there is an election, I mean there will be an election, and if I am the candidate, I will be on the ballot, and then I ask: who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate?” Soludo remarked.

The governor went on to state that, to the best of his knowledge, no strong contender has emerged to challenge his candidacy in the forthcoming election. “So far, unless the person will come down from somewhere but so far, I have not heard of any,” he added. Soludo’s remarks underline his belief that no opponent is currently capable of posing a serious challenge to his re-election prospects.

As a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Soludo’s leadership in Anambra has been closely scrutinized. However, he remains optimistic about his party’s position in the upcoming election. Despite being encouraged by various supporters to seek a second term, the governor emphasized that the decision on who will be the APGA flag bearer ultimately rests with the party. He also noted that he has received calls from across the state urging him to run again, reinforcing his belief that his administration has been well-received by the people.

Anambra is one of the eight states in Nigeria where off-season governorship elections are held, following various litigations and court judgments. The other states are Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo. This unique electoral timing has brought extra attention to the Anambra governorship race, which will be closely watched by both local and national political observers.
