Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has disclosed that he and his family have received disturbing threats from unknown individuals connected to the legal dispute involving social critic Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) and popular crossdresser Okuneye Idris, aka Bobrisky. The controversy arose after VeryDarkMan accused Falana of attempting to facilitate Bobrisky’s release following his conviction in April 2024.
In a recent interview with Sahara Reporters on Monday, October 7, 2024, Falana explained that the threats had escalated to a personal level, targeting both him and his daughter. “The only disturbing area in this scenario is the threat to me and one of my two daughters. Some of these guys who I believe are mentally deranged have dared me, ‘If you like, if you go to court, we shall burn your office,’” he revealed. Falana further described receiving messages aimed at his daughter, with some threatening her life if he pursued legal action. “They have also sent messages to one of my daughters that if your father goes to court, we shall kill you,” he added.
Despite the chilling threats, Falana remained unshaken, insisting that he would not back down. “I just laughed and I asked my daughter, ‘Don’t worry, I will take it up,’” he said, reiterating his resolve to confront the situation head-on. He also confirmed that he had already taken legal steps in response to the threats and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring justice prevails. “I have already taken that up because we must also let these guys know where we are coming from,” he stated.
Falana’s revelations have shed light on the heightened tensions surrounding the case, with the activist firmly standing his ground against what he described as “mentally deranged” intimidators.
