Nigerian TikToker Peller has raised concerns over receiving death threats after urging fellow Nigerians to stop the #30DayRants challenge on TikTok. He warned that continued criticism of poor governance through the trend could lead to the platform being banned in Nigeria, which would negatively affect content creators’ earnings.
Peller’s remarks triggered a backlash, with many social media users accusing him of trying to silence necessary conversations about governance. In response, he defended his stance, arguing that keeping TikTok operational in Nigeria was crucial for the livelihood of many digital creators.
During a recent livestream, Peller revealed that he had been threatened with violence, with some individuals referencing the shooting of fellow TikToker Oloba Salo in Lekki last year. “I have been receiving death threats. Some people threatened to shoot me like they shot Salo in Lekki Phase 1. They asked me to watch my back when going out,” he stated.
Disturbed by the threats, Peller expressed his frustration and decided to withdraw from the conversation entirely. “What is all these? I’m not talking again. Goodbye,” he concluded.
