Omowunmi Akinnifesi, the former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (2005), has opened up about her personal journey of faith, self-discovery, and the challenges she faced in staying true to her values in a world that often judges women harshly. In a candid video posted on her YouTube channel, Akinnifesi shared her decision to remain a virgin and the feelings of shame she endured, which ultimately led her to create a new initiative aimed at empowering women.
The initiative, called *Sacred Vessels*, was born out of Akinnifesi’s desire to help women rediscover their worth and uphold moral values in a society where these principles are sometimes overlooked. In the video, titled *The Walk in Purity*, Akinnifesi explained that her commitment to purity began at the age of 18, when she made a personal covenant with God to stay true to her values.
“I started this initiative because I see how things have changed. It seems as though women no longer understand our true value and morals,” Akinnifesi said, expressing her concern for how the perception of women has evolved. “I made a covenant with God when I was 18 about keeping myself,” she added, emphasizing that her decision was a spiritual commitment she has kept to this day.
Akinnifesi also opened up about the emotional struggles she faced, particularly in her twenties, when she dealt with feelings of shame and isolation. Despite her strong commitment to purity, she confessed that she struggled to talk to her friends about her choice, fearing ridicule. “I had friends that I couldn’t talk to. When I finally spoke to them, they would laugh at me,” she admitted, reflecting on the challenges of being open about her values.
In addition to the emotional struggles, Akinnifesi discussed how external pressures, such as rumors and negative stories about her personal life, contributed to her decision to stay committed to her values. “The stories I would hear about myself were even worse. Imagine being okay with negative stories about you, masking something that you thought was going to be an embarrassment. It was very hard for me, but I did it through the grace of God,” she revealed, highlighting how difficult it was to maintain her commitment under public scrutiny.
