“I Regret Advocating for Mohbad’s Exhumation” – Iyabo Ojo

Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her earlier calls for the exhumation of late singer Mohbad’s body, citing complications and disputes that have arisen since her advocacy. Speaking on the Talk to B podcast with Biola Bayo, the actress revealed that her intentions were justice-driven but admitted disappointment in how events have unfolded.

“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way,” she said during the interview. Iyabo lamented the ongoing delays in reburial and the disputes within the singer’s family. “He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But I also heard his dad has conditions again,” she added.

Iyabo explained that her advocacy for exhumation was solely to allow for an autopsy to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death and ensure those responsible faced justice. “I just wanted Mohbad’s body exhumed so they could do the autopsy to find out the cause of his death,” she stated.

The actress expressed frustration over the shift in focus from investigating the cause of death to the family’s insistence on a DNA test for Mohbad’s son, Liam. “I did my best to be sure that everyone was investigated, but when they came up with different theories, DNA became more important to them,” she said.

Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances and was buried the following day. However, his body was exhumed by the Lagos State Police on September 21, 2023, to facilitate an autopsy.

In October 2023, Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, insisted that the singer would not be reburied until a DNA test was conducted on his son to confirm his paternity. This demand has further delayed the reburial and resolution of the case.
