“I Was Falsely Accused of Stealing Gold” – Adewunmi Fatai Recounts Ordeal

Renowned Nollywood makeover artist and actor Mustapha Sholagbade’s baby mama, Adewunmi Fatai, has opened up about a distressing experience she faced while in the United Kingdom. She revealed that she was falsely accused of stealing gold, an allegation that quickly spread within the entertainment industry and left her deeply shaken.

Speaking on the Talk to B Podcast with Biola Bayo, Adewunmi recounted how the accusation not only damaged her reputation but also led to an even more painful suggestion—that her son should be taken away from her.

“I traveled abroad and was accused of stealing gold. I didn’t even know the rumor had already spread in the industry,” she said. “The woman told her mother over the phone that I was a thief and even said my son should be taken from me. I cried. When I told my mum on the phone, she also broke down in tears.”

Adewunmi also shared how the ordeal made her realize the extent of discrimination she faces, both abroad and within the Nollywood industry. She recalled an incident at an event where she was deliberately humiliated by a married woman who refused to serve her food, stating that only married women would be attended to first.

Despite these painful experiences, Adewunmi expressed her gratitude to those who have stood by her and helped her career flourish. She acknowledged the support of industry figures like Dele Ogundipe and Oluwole Cole Baraka, who played a key role in her journey by gifting her her first makeup box.

Reflecting on the kindness she has received from some colleagues, she praised actress Yetunde Barnabas for her generosity, describing her as a rare gem in the industry. “Not everyone is like Yetunde Barnabas. She is one of my best producers and a rare gem in the industry,” she said.

Adewunmi also addressed misconceptions about her professional rates, making it clear that her pricing reflects her expertise. “I am not expensive; it’s you who can’t afford me,” she stated.
