Jonathan Encourages Governor Fubara Amid Political Turmoil in Rivers State

In a recent show of solidarity, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan offered strong words of encouragement to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, who is currently navigating a turbulent political landscape. The former President addressed the challenges facing Governor Fubara, advising him to stay resolute as he contends with political tensions in the state. Jonathan’s remarks were delivered at a chieftaincy installation ceremony held on Sunday in Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Jonathan acknowledged the struggles that Fubara is enduring, particularly the ongoing political standoff between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Despite the difficulties, Jonathan emphasized that such challenges are integral to the political journey.

“You are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet,” Jonathan remarked. “I don’t like to say certain things, but this is the first time you are holding a top political office. You will face a lot. But remember, nobody becomes a General without fighting wars,” he continued.

The former President framed the struggles Fubara is facing as necessary steps in his political growth. He assured the Governor that the hardships he is currently experiencing would ultimately serve to strengthen his leadership abilities. “Whatever challenges you face now are preparing you to be a General in politics,” Jonathan said. “With your commitment and the support I see from the people of Rivers, God will see you through.”

Jonathan also took the opportunity to urge political stakeholders in the state to prioritize peace. According to him, Rivers State holds significant importance not only within the Niger Delta but for the entire nation. He warned that any instability in the state could have far-reaching consequences for the region’s economic well-being.

“We want a peaceful Rivers State because it is the center of the Niger Delta. If we create problems in Rivers State, we create a crisis in the Niger Delta, which is detrimental to our economy,” Jonathan stated. “We need a peaceful state, and we want the Governor to remain calm and focused on his work.”

Governor Fubara, in his response, expressed deep gratitude towards Jonathan for his unwavering support during this challenging period of his administration. He acknowledged the invaluable guidance and presence of the former President, pledging to continue on the path of development for the people of Rivers State.

“We will continue to follow the rightful path and reach our promised land. Thank you for your patience and support,” Fubara stated. His words reflected both appreciation and determination as he committed to persevering through the current political storm.

Fubara also underscored Jonathan’s pivotal role in offering support through difficult times. “He has stood by me through this difficult period of our administration,” the Governor said, emphasizing the enduring relationship between the two leaders.
