In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Big Brother Naija Season 9 winner Kellyrae opened up about a traumatic experience that nearly derailed his life. The reality star candidly discussed the emotional and financial turmoil he endured after losing all of his money to gambling, revealing how the incident took a significant toll on both his mental health and his relationship with long-time partner, Kassia.
Kellyrae disclosed that the gambling episode occurred just before he entered the Big Brother Naija house, making it a critical moment in his life. “I had some money, but because I wanted more, the money was not enough; I started gambling with it and then lost it all. I was depressed,” Kellyrae explained during the interview. The loss left him struggling to cope with a sense of failure and hopelessness, leading to sleepless nights filled with anxious thoughts.
The reality star admitted that the guilt of not being able to provide for Kassia during this period was overwhelming. He even considered ending his relationship with her, fearing that he was not worthy of her support. “I was thinking one day; I called her and said, let’s just break up. I feel I don’t have what it takes to really care for you because I feel guilty most of the time that there are things I’m supposed to be doing,” Kellyrae confessed, reflecting on the inner turmoil that plagued him.
Despite his thoughts of separation, Kassia remained a steadfast source of support during this difficult period. According to Kellyrae, it was Kassia who helped him navigate through the emotional distress and financial crisis. “Then she (Kassia) was the one who came to my rescue,” he said, highlighting the importance of her unwavering presence and support when he felt at his lowest.
