Kwankwaso Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the devastating floods that have ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
In a statement posted on the X platform on Tuesday, Kwankwaso expressed deep concern over the plight of residents who have been displaced and affected by the rising water levels.
“I have seen horrifying images from Maiduguri, where many parts of the city are submerged by water. I appeal to the authorities and those who can help to render all necessary assistance to safeguard the people and their communities,” Kwankwaso said.
He urged the government to provide immediate relief and support to those in need, including food, shelter, and medical care.
Residents of Maiduguri are currently panicking over the flooding of Maiduguri Zoo, popularly referred to as Sanda Kyarimi Park, located in the city centre.
Reports indicate that the zoo, which is located close to a waterway, is currently flooded by water.
Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of long-term solutions to prevent future flooding incidents.
He called on the government to invest in infrastructure development, such as dams and drainage systems, to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall.
Additionally, he urged authorities to implement early warning systems to alert residents of impending floods and facilitate timely evacuations.
Kwankwaso’s statement concluded, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the government and people of Borno State at this difficult time. – RMK”
