Award-winning actor and producer Lateef Adedimeji recently shared insights into his creative decisions for the film Lisabi, a historical drama which he co-produced with his wife, MoBimpe, who also served as the executive producer. In a revealing interview on Nollywood on Radio, Adedimeji discussed his deliberate choices for key roles in the film, highlighting the casting of actors Adebowale Adebayo (known as Mr. Macaroni) and Ibrahim Chatta, two figures who play pivotal roles in the storyline.
Adedimeji explained that selecting Mr. Macaroni for the role of Sokenu, Lisabi’s loyal best friend, was an “obvious choice,” given their established onscreen chemistry. “We have great chemistry on screen,” he said, reflecting on their close working relationship that began during the production of Ayinla, where they portrayed close roles. This bond, Adedimeji believes, greatly enhanced the dynamic between their characters in Lisabi. He added that they had since become close friends, which helped bring authenticity to their performances in the film.
In addition, Adedimeji explained that Ibrahim Chatta was his vision from the start for the role of Olori Ilari, a critical character in the narrative. “From the beginning of the script’s development, I had envisioned Ibrahim Chatta for the part,” he said, explaining that his research confirmed Chatta’s unmatched suitability for the role. MoBimpe, who expressed excitement about collaborating with Chatta, echoed her husband’s sentiments, noting that working with him had been a long-held dream come true.
Meanwhile, MoBimpe also shed light on Mr. Macaroni’s role not only as a co-actor but as a close friend of both her and her husband, even serving as the best man at their wedding. The depth of their friendship, she emphasized, contributed to their seamless collaboration on set. As Lisabi continues to generate buzz in the Nollywood space, the personal connections among the cast are seen as a key factor in its success.
