Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo has broken her silence regarding the ongoing legal battle with her former manager, Mr. Ezekiel ThankGod, also known as Eezeetee. In a recent statement shared on her Instagram, the mother of one outlined her side of the story, shedding light on the circumstances that led to the fallout and the legal conflict with her ex-manager. The statement came amidst mounting public accusations and legal proceedings surrounding the case.
Chinwo’s statement, which spans 11 pages, addressed various aspects of her business relationship with Eezeetee, with a particular focus on the alleged financial mismanagement and breach of trust. According to Chinwo, the core issue began when Eezeetee allegedly pressured her to extend their five-year contract into a twelve-year agreement, a request she reportedly declined. “When I refused, things started to turn sour,” Chinwo’s statement read. “Eezeetee became unfriendly and even used threatening language, referencing the contract in a menacing way.”
In addition to the conflict over the contract extension, Chinwo’s legal team claims that Eezeetee forged a document in 2019 to alter the terms of their original agreement from 2017. The new document, according to Chinwo, was modified to look like the original contract, despite the fact that it was fabricated. “Eezeetee faked a contract in 2019, modifying the date to resemble the original 2017 agreement,” Chinwo’s statement continued, revealing the depth of the alleged deceit.
Despite efforts to resolve the matter amicably, Chinwo’s legal team asserts that Eezeetee escalated the situation by taking the dispute to court. In the statement, Chinwo’s representatives revealed that Eezeetee had filed a lawsuit against both Mercy Chinwo and another gospel artist, Judikay. “Just as we were waiting for Eezeetee to finalize the settlement peacefully by signing, we were told that he had engaged a new lawyer and filed a case in court,” the statement read. The legal action was officially referenced under the case number LMDC/09-24/289/WI-M.
Furthermore, the statement also addressed allegations made by Eezeetee in the public domain, including claims that Mercy Chinwo had taken him to court over the music catalog, which Chinwo’s team denied. “Eezeetee pushed false reports claiming that Minister Mercy took him to court for a catalog dispute, hoping to mislead the public and garner sympathy,” Chinwo’s legal team stated. In the midst of the ongoing disputes, Chinwo also pointed out that Eezeetee had filed a separate lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigating the allegations made against him.
The situation escalated when news emerged that Eezeetee was facing charges of fraud, with the EFCC issuing a warrant for his arrest. “We later heard that he has been charged for fraud by the EFCC, and a warrant of arrest has been issued for him,” Chinwo’s statement confirmed, signaling the gravity of the situation and the legal consequences for Eezeetee. The EFCC’s involvement has added a new layer of complexity to the case, which continues to unfold in the public eye.
Chinwo, however, remained resolute in her belief that the situation would be resolved in due time. “Minister Mercy firmly believes that the Lord has settled her and wiped away her tears,” the statement concluded. Chinwo urged Eezeetee to clarify the discrepancies surrounding the 2017 contract, specifically questioning why the 2019 forged document was introduced. “He should explain to the world what happened to the original 2017 contract and why he felt the need to forge a new one in 2019,” Chinwo asserted, adding that the truth about the two contracts should be made public.
