Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has initiated a defamation lawsuit against popular online critic and comic actor VeryDarkMan (VDM), accusing him of spreading false information about her relationship with her former manager, EeZee Tee (Ezekiel Thankgod Onyedikachukwu). The gospel singer is demanding N1.1 billion in damages, as well as a public apology from VDM.
Vincent Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, first stirred controversy when he alleged that Mercy Chinwo was dishonest and concealing key details regarding her situation with EeZee Tee. Otse’s claims sparked a wave of backlash, particularly from Chinwo’s fans and supporters, who accused him of spreading lies. “Mercy has nothing to hide, and these baseless allegations are damaging her reputation,” a source close to the artist stated.
In response to the legal action, the activist-turned-comic actor did not seem intimidated. In an online post, VeryDarkMan laughed off the lawsuit, suggesting that he had a strategy in place to handle the case. “I’ve got this all figured out,” he wrote on his social media account, fueling further tension between the two.
The lawsuit was first reported by GistLover, which revealed that Chinwo’s legal team had filed the necessary documents. The gospel artist is seeking not only monetary compensation but also a public retraction. She has demanded that VeryDarkMan remove all defamatory posts and publicly retract his statements about her within the next 14 days.
VeryDarkMan’s response has only intensified the situation. Recently, he posted a new video promoting his latest song, “Body of Christ,” which he produced in collaboration with Soji Star. In the same video, he spoke about the possibility of working with Mercy Chinwo in the future, describing her as a “very spiritual” individual. This statement has raised eyebrows, as it appears to contradict the earlier claims he made about her.
