The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made a shocking declaration, stating that he will never support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in his political life again. This statement comes amid a strained relationship between Wike and Fubara, his predecessor as governor of Rivers State.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday, Wike lambasted Fubara, accusing him of spreading lies and ingratitude. “I will never support Fubara in my political life again. Anybody knows me, it’s not about me. People laboured to put up a structure,” Wike said.
Wike claimed to have been instrumental in Fubara’s rise to power, stating, “I brought you up, put you here. Today, I turned to be over-demanding.” He expressed disappointment and hurt at Fubara’s alleged ingratitude, saying, “We are all humans, ingratitude is bad, it doesn’t matter what anybody can label it.”
The minister emphasized the importance of maintaining a solid political structure in the state, saying, “In every political family, you run election under people and people believe that we are all together. We must have to keep our political structure.”
Wike’s comments highlight the deepening rift between him and Fubara, who have different factions of lawmakers in the State House of Assembly. Fubara’s loyalists are headed by Speaker Victor Oko-Jombo, while the pro-Wike lawmakers are led by Martin Amaewhule.
