Nigerian comedian and activist, Mr. Macaroni, whose real name is Adebowale Adedayo, has voiced his frustration over the events that unfolded during First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s recent visit to a nursing school in Delta State. The visit turned controversial after an unexpected response from the students sparked a disciplinary incident, drawing criticism from the popular social media influencer.
The incident occurred during the visit when the MC at the event encouraged the students to chant “our mama” in reference to the First Lady. However, instead of echoing the chant, the students collectively responded with “their mama.” This unscripted reaction, which many saw as a sign of independence or humor, led to a swift reaction from the school authorities. The school issued a query to the student involved, demanding a response within 24 hours, and further threatened disciplinary action.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Macaroni took to social media to express his discontent with the way the situation was handled. In a post on Instagram, he criticized the authorities for threatening a student with punishment over their response to the chant. Macaroni’s message resonated with many Nigerians who felt the disciplinary action was too harsh and unwarranted.
“Delta State College of Nursing Sciences is threatening a student with disciplinary action because of song??? The students say dem sabi their mama!!” Mr. Macaroni wrote. “Students wey their mama dey work hard to give them better life.. una wan come expel them because them refuse to deny their mama? Na by force???”
