National Grid Restored After Temporary Disturbance, Says TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that the national grid was successfully restored following a temporary disturbance on Saturday morning. The issue, which occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m., was promptly addressed by TCN engineers, ensuring minimal disruption to power supply. TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, explained in a statement from Abuja that engineers at the Jebba Transmission Substation acted swiftly to contain the situation. “TCN engineers at Jebba successfully carried out switchings by isolating the faulty current transformer,” Mbah reported, detailing the quick response to the issue.

The disturbance was triggered by an explosion in the bus section of a current transformer at the 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation. Mbah noted that the explosion activated the protection system, which “promptly opened the busbars to curtail the explosion, thereby preventing the outbreak of fire and further damage to adjacent equipment.” This quick reaction by the protection system helped to minimize the impact of the incident, although it did cause a temporary disturbance across the national grid.

Following the activation of the protection system, TCN engineers worked tirelessly to restore power. “The engineers had also reconfigured the busbar arrangement, restoring the power supply to the station and other parts of the grid,” Mbah said, confirming that the national grid had been fully restored by the afternoon. The swift action by TCN engineers ensured that the situation was contained and that power outages were kept to a minimum.

In her statement, Mbah reassured the public that the issue was fully resolved, adding that the TCN was committed to maintaining grid stability. “As expected, the protection system was activated,” she said, emphasizing that the swift response had prevented a potentially larger issue.
