Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed Augustine Eguavoen as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, ending speculation about his departure. Eguavoen took charge of the team in an interim capacity for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Eguavoen’s initial stint yielded positive results, with a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw with Rwanda. However, reports suggested he had left the job after the Rwanda match.
The NFF has now confirmed Eguavoen’s continuation as Head Coach. “The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee,” said Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Communications.
This decision follows Eguavoen’s successful temporary tenure, which saw the Super Eagles earn four points from two matches. His experience, having led the team three times previously, was likely a factor in the NFF’s decision.
“The Executive Committee’s approval means Eguavoen will continue to lead the Super Eagles,” Olajire stated. The move provides stability and continuity for the team as they progress in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
With Eguavoen at the helm, the Super Eagles will aim to build on their promising start and secure qualification for the 2025 tournament.
