Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed optimism about the future of the country, describing Nigeria as a nation with a great destiny. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Arise News on Monday, Obasanjo shared his belief that despite the country’s current economic struggles, Nigeria is destined for greatness. He emphasized that the ongoing hardships will eventually subside, and better days lie ahead for the nation.
Obasanjo acknowledged the difficult times Nigerians are experiencing but urged the populace to remain hopeful. “Where we are is not where God wants us to be. And I believe that sooner than later, we will get to where God wants us to be,” he stated, reinforcing his enduring faith in Nigeria’s potential. The former president expressed confidence that the nation’s economic difficulties are only temporary and will soon be overcome.
He further emphasized his unwavering optimism, saying, “I am an incurable optimist about Nigeria, and we have a great country.” Obasanjo’s comments came in the midst of Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges, including rising inflation, unemployment, and social inequality. However, the former leader remains steadfast in his belief that the country’s fortunes will improve.
Obasanjo believes that Nigeria is destined to be a prosperous land, where abundance and prosperity will flourish. “God wants Nigeria to be a land flowing with milk and honey, not a desert, not a basket case, not a failed country,” he remarked. He pointed out that the country’s current state is a result of the actions of both its leaders and followers, whether deliberate or inadvertent. Nonetheless, he remains hopeful that the country’s future is bright.
The former president’s statements reflect a sense of national pride and resilience, which he believes are essential for overcoming the current challenges. He encouraged Nigerians to hold on to hope and remain committed to the collective effort needed to move the country forward. Obasanjo’s words serve as a reminder that, despite setbacks, the belief in Nigeria’s potential should not be lost.
When discussing the role of leadership in shaping the country’s future, Obasanjo pointed out that the actions of both leaders and citizens contribute to Nigeria’s current circumstances. However, he emphasized that with the right vision and actions, the country can achieve greatness. “But God is the God of great things for Nigeria. I believe God has great things for Nigeria in the immediate future,” he said, expressing optimism for a brighter tomorrow.
