The Nigerian Senate has announced the postponement of the screening for seven ministerial nominees that was originally scheduled for Tuesday. Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, confirmed the delay in a statement released in Abuja. He noted that the rescheduling aims to provide the nominees with additional time to finalize their required documentation.
While no specific date for the rescheduled screening has been confirmed, sources suggest that it is likely to take place on Wednesday, October 30, at 12:00 p.m. This extension allows the nominees to ensure all necessary paperwork is in order before their appearance before the Senate.
The ministerial nominees awaiting screening include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Dingyadi for Labour and Employment, and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu for State Foreign Affairs. Other nominees include Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Idi Mukhtar Maiha for Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata for State Housing and Urban Development, and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad for State Education.
The Senate’s decision to postpone the screening underscores the importance of completing all administrative procedures before proceeding with the nominations. This delay reflects a commitment to ensuring a thorough vetting process for each candidate.
As the new date approaches, all eyes will be on the Senate as they prepare to evaluate the qualifications and readiness of the nominees to take on their respective ministerial roles.
