Controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s prison arrangements has been clarified by prison experts, who deny claims of a VIP section. Bishop Kayode Williams, Director General of the Prison Rehabilitation Mission, explained that inmates are categorized and housed based on specific needs.
“For someone like Bobrisky, with a transgender appearance, protective custody is necessary,” Williams said. “Homosexual inmates may target him, posing a security risk.”
Francis Enobore, Former National PRO of the Nigerian Correctional Service, corroborated Williams’ statements. “We profile inmates for safety and environmental concerns. Bobrisky’s appearance warrants special consideration.”
Enobore dismissed allegations of VIP treatment, stating, “There’s no private apartment or special treatment in prison.” The controversy began after a voice note alleged Bobrisky’s godfather and the Controller General arranged for a private apartment.
Two deputy controllers at Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre were suspended amid bribery allegations linked to Bobrisky’s incarceration. Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison for abusing the naira.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro ruled that Bobrisky’s sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who abuse and mutilate the naira.
