Popular Nigerian On-Air Personality (OAP) Dotun has fired back at a social media user who took a jab at him over his failed marriage after he commented on the recent hostage situation involving the Super Eagles in Libya. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 13, when Dotun weighed in on the political situation, suggesting that had late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi still been alive, the episode would never have taken place.
In his remarks on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dotun expressed that the downfall of Gaddafi was the “biggest undoing” for Libya. “This would never have happened if Gaddafi was alive,” Dotun said, adding that the loss of the leader had set the nation back by two decades. He further criticized the current mindset of the Libyan people, stating, “It took them two decades back. They think like p.!.gs.”
Dotun’s comments sparked a wave of disagreement from several users on X, with many accusing him of romanticizing Gaddafi’s reign. One user responded to Dotun’s remarks, writing, “See his thought process. Na why your wife leave you.” The comment was a direct reference to Dotun’s past marriage to Taiwo Oyebanjo, the younger sister of musician D’Banj, which ended in separation. Dotun and Oyebanjo share two daughters, with the custody of the children granted to Oyebanjo.
The remark clearly struck a nerve with Dotun, who did not hesitate to reply. He responded forcefully to the user, indicating that personal attacks relating to his failed marriage would not be tolerated. His quick retort underscored his unwillingness to let personal criticisms detract from his public commentary on serious matters such as the Super Eagles’ ordeal in Libya.
