Okada Riders To Lagos State Government: “Regulate Not Ban”

Commercial motorcycle operators with ride-hailing companies, Gokada,Opay,MAX are pleading with the Lagos State Government to rather than ban them, they should be regulated.

ThecommentNg recalls that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had declared a ban on commercial motorbikes (popularly called Okada) and tricycles (popularly known as Keke)  beginning from Saturday February 1, 2020.

The ban, which is being enforced in 15 local government areas and local council development areas across the state, became necessary due to the “scary” casualty figures resulting from their use, the government said.

Some of the protesters carried placards with different inscriptions, ‘Regulate, not ban,’ ‘We need more jobs, not less,’ ‘No helmet, no ride, ask my passengers,’ ‘I am trained, certified and tracked always,’ among others.

This online news platform captured some moments during the protest for regulation, see below;
