It is no longer news that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is currently the Special Envoy to Mobilise International Economic Support for Continental Fight against COVID-19, is contesting to become the first woman and first African to lead the World Trade Organisation.
The good news here is that many African leaders both in business and politics have been tipping her for the role. Some days ago, Aliko Dangote took to Twitter to pour out his heart, while throwing his weight behind the industrious woman, saying, “In these challenging times, WTO needs the renowned skills and tested experience of Okonjo-Iweala.
“A vote for her by all is a step in the right direction. I fully endorse the candidature of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to lead the organisation through identified obstacles and strengthen its position as the prime facilitator of international trade.”
While responding to questions from the public on what kind of WTO DG she would be, if elected, Okonjo-Iweala promised to be proactive, supportive and solutions-oriented.
