The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has spoken candidly about his past marriage and the humiliation he faced on social media after its collapse. However, the monarch has now found new love and happiness, surrounded by his six wives.
“I was sleeping and waking up alone. I called on God; I asked questions: who did I offend? I never did evil to anyone,” Ooni recounted, reflecting on his tumultuous past. “He told me to put my mind at rest. Look at me today. There are queens everywhere in the palace.”
The Ooni’s second wife, Olori Naomi, announced their separation in December 2022, shocking many. She recently spoke about her divorce, stating she would not return to the palace, citing the king’s new marriages.
Following his split from Olori Naomi, Ooni married six wives in three months: Olori Mariam, Olori Elizabeth Akinmuda, Olori Tobi Phillips, Olori Ashley, Olori Ronke, and Olori Temitope. During his 48th birthday and seventh coronation anniversary celebration, Ooni explained his reasons for remarrying, citing his desire to make changes while respecting Ile Ife’s traditional legacy.
The Ooni’s new unions have been blessed with children. This year, he welcomed twins with Olori Tobi and a boy with Olori Ashley.
