Social media influencer, Papaya Ex has voiced her frustration over the worsening water quality in Lekki, Lagos, revealing that she spends a staggering N24,000 every day on bottled water. In a recent video shared on her social media platforms, the socialite opened up about the dire water conditions in the area, expressing how she is forced to rely on bottled water for almost all of her daily needs, including cooking, bathing, and even flushing the toilet.
In the video, Papaya Ex showed her followers the 30 bags of pure water she had just purchased, each bag costing 800 naira. She went on to explain the financial burden this has created for her. “Back to this! I’m tired to think a bag costs 800 naira now in my estate. Imagine 800 naira x 30 bags = 24K everyday. N720K monthly,” she captioned the video, emphasizing the significant amount she spends on water each month.
The influencer’s video has since sparked a wave of reactions from her followers and beyond, with many expressing surprise and concern over the growing water crisis in Lagos. Papaya Ex’s post sheds light on the struggles faced by residents of Lekki, an area known for its affluence, yet plagued by inadequate access to clean water. This revelation has raised questions about the state of public utilities in Nigeria’s urban centers.
The situation in Lekki, according to Papaya Ex, has become so critical that even basic tasks like cooking and personal hygiene now require bottled water. “I can’t even cook without bottled water, and I have to use it for everything, including flushing the toilet,” she said in her video. This has led to a growing debate about the lack of sustainable water infrastructure in the region, particularly for residents who can afford to buy bottled water as a temporary solution.
