Controversial UK-based clergyman Pastor Tobi Adegboyega has responded to growing criticism of his extravagant lifestyle, particularly his designer wardrobe and luxury cars, urging Nigerians to focus on wealthier pastors in the country. Known for his flashy displays of wealth, Adegboyega addressed the backlash head-on, calling for greater scrutiny of Nigerian pastors who own private jets while his own lavish choices are being criticized.
In a fiery statement, Adegboyega fired back at those targeting his choice of luxury items, stating, “Nigerians should allow me to wear what I want.” He questioned why the public is quick to criticize him while overlooking the wealth of Nigerian pastors who own private jets. “Their pastors drive jets. Private jets compared to Louis Vuitton [items]—they should start asking their pastors, ‘Can we see your house and cars?’” he remarked.
The outspoken pastor, who leads the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation) in London, accused Nigerian pastors of hiding their wealth from the public. “Their pastors are spineless because they hide their cars. But I’m true to myself, and I’ll drive any car I like,” Adegboyega declared, emphasizing his transparency and unapologetic approach to his lifestyle.
Adegboyega also addressed concerns about his possible return to Nigeria in the face of the criticisms. Despite the backlash, he made it clear that he was not intimidated by the thought of returning to his home country. “I’m not afraid of returning to Nigeria because just two shoes can sustain me for three years,” he added, suggesting that his minimalistic approach to certain aspects of life contrasts with his public image of opulence.
