“Pasuma Is My Boss” – Taye Currency Declares, Clarifies Misunderstanding

Yoruba Fuji musician, Alhaji Taye Adebisi, popularly known as Taye Currency, has expressed deep admiration for his colleague, Wasiu Alabi, aka Pasuma, acknowledging him as his superior in the Fuji music industry. In a recent interview with Akede Ariya on Thursday, Taye Currency emphasized that despite rumors of a feud between them, he holds Pasuma in high regard and considers him a boss rather than a rival.

“I met Pasuma in 1993, and since then we have been together. I didn’t learn Fuji music from him, I just love him because he is a humble person,” Taye revealed. He clarified that their bond was based on mutual respect rather than any formal mentorship in music. Taye further stated, “It is not that I’m disrespecting him or anything. I wasn’t his drummer or backup singer. He was in Lagos, and I was in Ibadan.”

Despite speculations that their relationship was strained, Taye Currency dismissed any notion of a feud. He explained that any perceived tension was due to the reactions of their respective fanbases. “We are not fighting. Those who are insulting us are berating and disrespecting us,” Taye said. He acknowledged that misunderstandings were bound to occur, especially between people who had known each other for decades.

“Anybody who has known each other for 30 years, even as a boss and a worker, is liable to have misunderstandings. We are not the first to have a misunderstanding, but it is our fans who are prolonging it,” Taye explained, referring to the ongoing controversy between him and Pasuma. He further questioned, “How did I insult Pasuma, what did I insult Pasuma with?”

Taye also took the opportunity to clarify his relationship with other prominent Fuji musicians. He described Obesere, a senior figure in the Fuji music scene, as his brother and fellow musician Saheed Osupa as a colleague. “Saheed Osupa is my colleague; I know him just as a singer,” he added. However, Taye was adamant about the status of his relationship with Pasuma. “Pasuma is my boss because I admit it,” he stated firmly.

In a notable turn of events, Taye Currency’s comments regarding Pasuma had earlier stirred controversy in October 2024. Taye had disapproved of fans referring to Pasuma as his “father” in the music industry, clarifying that he saw him more as an elder brother. His remarks led to an outcry from Pasuma’s fans, who criticized him for the statement.

However, in a dramatic twist, Taye Currency later apologized during a meeting with Pasuma in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during the ongoing Umrah 2025. In a viral video, Taye expressed regret for any offense his previous remarks might have caused, stating that his words had been misinterpreted. He publicly apologized to Pasuma, acknowledging him as his superior and affirming his unwavering respect and commitment to him.

Taye concluded, “Pasuma is not a troublesome person, nor am I,” reinforcing his desire for peace and unity between them. He reiterated that he never intended to insult Pasuma and pledged to continue respecting him as an elder in the Fuji music industry.
