Peter Obi Slams FG’s Wasteful Spending, Says 38 Million Nigerians on Brink of Extreme Hunger

Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized the Federal Government’s wasteful spending, citing it as a major contributor to Nigeria’s worsening economic and security crises.

Obi stated that Nigeria is facing a severe crisis, with 38 million people on the brink of extreme hunger. He attributed this to the government’s prioritization of luxury spending over essential development areas like health, education, and poverty alleviation.

The Labour Party candidate specifically highlighted the government’s expenditure on a new presidential jet, vice president’s lodge renovation, and National Assembly clinic construction as examples of wasteful spending. “You can’t ask people to fast while you’re feasting,” Obi said, emphasizing the need for responsible governance.

Obi called for a merger with other opposition parties to tackle Nigeria’s challenges ahead of the 2027 presidential election. He also expressed concerns about the government’s plan to remove subsidies, warning that it would further burden Nigerians.

The former governor demanded transparency in the government’s subsidy removal plans, saying, “Tell us where the money is going.” He stressed the need for accountability and effective leadership to address Nigeria’s crises.
