Peter Okoye Fires Back at Rudeboy Over Song Theft Allegations

Veteran Nigerian artist Peter Okoye, better known as Mr. P from the famous music duo Psquare, has publicly responded to his brother, Rudeboy (Paul Okoye), over claims that Peter’s latest track, “Attention,” was a theft of Rudeboy’s forthcoming music. The dispute, which has gained significant attention on social media, centers around Rudeboy’s accusation that Peter copied the concept for “Attention” from his own upcoming album, slated for release in June 2025.

The controversy began when Rudeboy expressed his concerns about the similarities between his unreleased work and Mr. P’s new song. Rudeboy insinuated that the lyrics, style, and theme of “Attention” bore too much resemblance to his own material. This led to a growing speculation that Peter had drawn inspiration from Paul’s unreleased songs without permission, sparking a heated public back-and-forth.

In response to these claims, Peter Okoye took to Instagram to vehemently deny any wrongdoing. He posted a lengthy statement on his page, asserting that he has substantial evidence to refute Rudeboy’s allegations. “If someone makes false claims about me and I can prove it, I have the right to stand up for myself,” Peter wrote, making it clear that he was not going to allow the accusation to go unchallenged.

Peter went on to address the more serious accusations leveled against him, including the assertion that Rudeboy and their older brother, Jude Okoye, had taken legal action to have the song removed from music streaming platforms. According to Peter, they had enlisted a lawyer to pursue the matter in court. In his Instagram post, Peter shared his frustration: “Call us names, call us childish; it is fine. I understand, but anyone that says anything false about me and I have evidence, then I have a right to defend myself.”

Peter’s response also questioned the authenticity of Rudeboy’s claims regarding the song. He directly addressed his brother’s statement that he had never worked with Calypso60music, the producer Peter collaborated with on “Attention.” “You claimed you wrote the song and you didn’t know any @calypso60music. Then how come @calypso60music and I are now telling you what to sing?” Peter pointed out in his post, suggesting that there was more to the story than Rudeboy had let on.

In his post, Peter also declared that he would fight to protect his creative rights. “JUST FOR THE RECORD GUYS! JUDE And PAUL written through a Lawyer and are doing everything possibly to take the song down from all Music Platform. But I will fight with my full chest,” he stated emphatically, vowing to stand by his work and his integrity in the face of the legal challenges being pursued by his family members.

The dispute has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music industry, as the Okoye brothers have long been one of the most successful and influential music duos in Africa. Fans and critics alike have been left divided over the ongoing conflict, with some supporting Peter and others backing Rudeboy’s version of events.

Peter’s insistence on his right to defend his creative output has resonated with many, especially those in the music community who understand the pressures of ownership and artistic integrity. “No one has the right to steal my work or take credit for what I created,” Peter wrote in another post, making it clear that he was committed to defending his art at all costs.

This feud between the two brothers is the latest chapter in an ongoing saga of tension that began after their public split in 2017. The breakup of Psquare left fans disappointed, and ever since, Peter and Rudeboy’s relationship has been fraught with disagreements, both personal and professional. However, the latest drama, revolving around song theft, appears to be one of the most serious confrontations they have faced since their separation as a musical duo.
