Phyno has praised the current generation of parents for their increased support in nurturing their children’s talents, particularly in music and sports. During an interview on the In My Opinion Podcast, Phyno shared insights into his own childhood and the challenges he faced as an aspiring musician. He recalled that his parents were initially unsupportive of his musical ambitions, saying, “My parents didn’t support my career when I first started. It’s different now.”
The rapper reflected on the shift in parental attitudes between his generation and today’s. “I think the generation after my parents understands what it means to support their children’s talent and knows that there is something special about a child who loves music, or a child who loves to play ball,” Phyno observed, noting that modern parents are more open to encouraging their children’s creative and athletic pursuits.
Drawing a comparison between past and present, Phyno highlighted how children from his era often faced punishment for engaging in hobbies like sports or music. “Then, when parents come home and see you playing ball, they beat you and seize the ball and give you punishment. You understand me?” he said. Phyno emphasized the differences in how children’s passions were treated in the past, suggesting that pursuing these interests often led to reprimands rather than support.
Phyno expressed admiration for today’s parents, who he believes are much more willing to recognize and nurture their children’s unique abilities. “I’m just trying to say that era and this era are different,” he said. “Now any father who sees his son can play ball and enrolls him in an academy. Some, at 1 year old already buy you a ball and say you must play ball like Neymar.” His comments highlight how today’s parents are more proactive in helping their children develop their skills from an early age.
The rapper also acknowledged the evolving perception of creative careers, particularly in the music industry. He pointed out that the financial success in music today was unimaginable during his early years. “Different generations, you know and I also don’t blame my parents,” he said. “I’m sure that the money in music now was never in music then.” Phyno noted that his parents, like many from his generation, did not see music as a viable career option and often viewed it as a frivolous pursuit.
Phyno further explained that in the past, musicians were often regarded as “useless people” by society. “They also looked at people who did music back then as useless people. As people who just wanted to carry dreadlocks and walk around,” he said. This perception, however, has changed over time as the music industry has become a respected and profitable career, with more recognition given to the value of creative talent.
In closing, Phyno gave credit to the current generation of parents for their progressive mindset, acknowledging how they now view creative and athletic talents as valuable gifts. “But now everyone sees the talent and a gift to be shared to the world, and shout-out to this era of parents,” he said. His comments reflect the growing appreciation for supporting children’s dreams, which he believes will lead to greater success and fulfillment for future generations.
