President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump following his re-election as the 47th President of the United States of America. Tinubu’s message, which was conveyed on Wednesday, underlined the Nigerian leader’s hopes to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and the U.S. as both nations face complex global challenges.
The congratulatory statement was released by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Titled “President Tinubu Congratulates President-elect Trump,” the statement emphasized Tinubu’s eagerness to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
In the statement, President Tinubu said, “Together, we can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and address global challenges that affect our citizens.” This remark reflects his desire to deepen the ties between Nigeria and the United States in light of the many pressing issues both nations are tackling.
Tinubu also commended the American electorate, acknowledging their role in Trump’s victory. “Trump’s victory reflects the trust and confidence the American people have placed in his leadership,” he said, while congratulating the U.S. citizens for their continued commitment to democratic values. The statement highlighted how the American people’s faith in their electoral system was instrumental in the re-election of the former president.
The Nigerian president’s statement also noted Trump’s previous tenure as the 45th President of the United States, which lasted from 2017 to 2021. Tinubu expressed confidence that Trump’s return to the White House would mark the beginning of a new phase in U.S.-Africa relations. “His return to the White House will usher in an era of earnest, beneficial, and reciprocal economic and development partnerships between Africa and the United States,” Tinubu’s statement read.
