President Bola Tinubu has concluded his participation in the 19th G20 Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After a series of high-level engagements and discussions, the president departed from Galeao Air Force Base (SBGL) Airport on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. local time. His flight is scheduled to land at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 10:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
At the G20 summit, President Tinubu emphasized the need for global unity in addressing critical issues such as hunger and poverty. He stressed that international cooperation on these matters is essential for achieving lasting development and stability. “The global alliance against hunger and poverty remains a key issue for us, and it is imperative that we work together as a global community to tackle these challenges,” Tinubu said during one of his speeches.
A major highlight of the summit was Tinubu’s participation in several important bilateral discussions. Notably, he held talks with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Georgieva commended President Tinubu for his economic reforms and the positive results seen under his administration. She expressed confidence that Nigeria’s economic trajectory would continue to improve as a result of these reforms.
Among the key outcomes of Tinubu’s diplomatic visit was his involvement in the signing of a $2.5 billion Letter of Intent between Nigeria and JBS S.A., a Brazilian meat processing giant. JBS, one of the world’s top three companies in the meat industry, will be investing in Nigeria as part of a strategic partnership aimed at boosting the nation’s agricultural sector. This agreement is expected to create jobs and enhance Nigeria’s export capabilities in the agricultural sector.
