President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his dedication to driving tangible progress in Nigeria, focusing on key areas such as infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and long-term economic stability. During a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Tinubu emphasized that his goal is not personal enrichment, but to serve the nation and deliver results.
“I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” Tinubu remarked, highlighting his commitment to the country’s development. The meeting, held at the State House, brought together 16 former presiding officers, including past senate presidents, speakers of the House of Representatives, and their deputies.
Tinubu expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support from the Forum members, calling for continued unity and collaboration. “Regardless of party differences of the past and the difficulties of the present, you still believe in me and in what we all plan for this country,” he said, emphasizing the need for inclusivity.
The President reflected on Nigeria’s challenges, questioning past decisions that neglected oil-producing communities and critical areas like education. “We neglected our communities; we neglected the goose that lays the golden eggs; we forgot even to give them a good standard of living,” Tinubu lamented, highlighting the need for improved education environments.
To address these issues, Tinubu’s administration will focus on infrastructure development, financial regulation, alternative energy exploration, and robust energy security. “We have come a long way, and I promise we must do our best,” he assured.
Senator Ken Nnamani expressed strong support for President Tinubu’s leadership and efforts to address Nigeria’s challenges. Tinubu urged the former presiding officers to share their experience and provide clarity to the Nigerian public.
As Nigeria faces development challenges, including poverty, conflict, and climate change ¹, President Tinubu’s commitment to progress is crucial. With the UK and other international partners working to support Nigeria’s development, collaboration and inclusivity will be key to achieving success.
