Political commentator Reno Omokri has responded to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s mockery, following a recent post from El-Rufai that aimed to ridicule him. The controversy began when El-Rufai shared photos from a 2022 protest in London, where Omokri was seen holding a placard that read, “No to a drug baron in Aso Rock.” The protest was directed against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the images were meant to highlight Omokri’s political activism.
El-Rufai, known for his sharp commentary and political jabs, accompanied the photos with a caption that read, “NIGERIA UPDATE – The interesting lifecycle of Wendell Simlin, also sometimes retained as a political mercenary by any person or government that can pay.” The caption appeared to mock Omokri, referencing him as a mercenary for hire in the political landscape. The post quickly gained attention, sparking reactions from both supporters and critics of the two figures.
In response, Reno Omokri fired back at El-Rufai in an Instagram post, turning the focus toward the state of security in Kaduna after El-Rufai left office. “Since Nasir El-Rufai left as governor of Kaduna, have you ever heard of killer herdsmen wiping out Christian communities in Southern Kaduna?” Omokri wrote, drawing attention to the violence and insecurity that had plagued the region during El-Rufai’s tenure and afterward.
