Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has expressed disappointment over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for relocating her polling unit to another place without prior notice.
According to the actress, who took to her Instagram page to make the disclosure, she had been voting at the same polling unit in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos State, for over ten years.
However, on Saturday, March 16, 2019, during the governorship and state house of assembly elections, INEC officials moved the polling unit from inside the estate to the main road outside, causing confusion and chaos among voters.
Rita Dominic expressed her disappointment and shock at the decision of the electoral body to move the polling unit without prior notice to residents of the estate. She also pointed out that there were many senior citizens who lived inside the estate who might not be able to vote due to the relocation of the polling unit.
The actress further raised concerns about the safety and security of voters, especially the elderly, who would have to contend with traffic congestion and chaotic voting conditions outside the estate.
“I have voted in same polling unit for over 10 years and did so just about 3 weeks ago for the presidential election. I can’t fathom why Inec officials will decide to move this outside? There are many senior citizens who live inside the estate, who want to exercise their civic duty, but as it stands now, might not be able to do that because of this decision.
“What reason would you move thousands of voters from somewhere that is organised to a chaotic place that would obstruct traffic? I just can’t wrap my head around it!”, she wrote.
