Rivers State Elders Demand to Know the Whereabouts of Suspended Governor Sim Fubara

In a press conference held today, March 21, 2025, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a group of prominent elders from the region raised serious concerns about the whereabouts of the state’s suspended governor, Sim Fubara. The elders, speaking on behalf of the Rivers people, revealed that even Fubara’s close relatives have been unable to make contact with him since his suspension from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025.

The lack of information regarding the governor’s status has caused significant alarm within the state, with the elders demanding answers from both the state and federal governments. “The whereabouts of Similaye Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, is unknown to Rivers people,” stated Rufus Ada George, a former governor of the state, who spoke on behalf of the concerned group. “He has not spoken to anybody. We have not seen him.”

The group expressed deep frustration and concern over the continued silence surrounding Fubara’s condition and location. According to Ada George, this uncertainty could have serious implications for the governor’s wellbeing. “We are demanding that Fubara should come on TV if he is alive,” he added, emphasizing the growing fear that the governor may be under undue duress or worse. The elders’ call for transparency comes amid increasing tension in the state following Fubara’s suspension.

Furthermore, the elders pointed fingers at the involvement of former governor Nyesom Wike, claiming that his influence, backed by President Tinubu, could potentially be a factor in the current situation. “We can observe that Nyesom Wike can go to any length, and Mr. President is backing him. They can do anything to this young man,” Ada George asserted. This statement has raised questions about the political dynamics at play in Rivers State, as many speculate that Fubara’s suspension may be tied to larger power struggles within the state.

The call for Fubara to publicly address the people of Rivers State is a direct challenge to both the state and federal governments. “Rivers people demand to know his whereabouts and to know what is happening to him,” Ada George emphasized.
