Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on a visit to the scene of the explosion that happened yesterday at Abule Ado area of Lagos said the aftermath of the eruption looks like a war zone, adding that he has never seen anything like it before.
Sanwo-Olu who was accompanied by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, made this assertion while assessing the extent of the damage caused by the inferno.
He said “I must confess I have seen anything of this magnitude before, it’s like a war zone,” Sanwo-Olu said during the inspection.
He also inspected the Bethlehem Girls College in Abule Ado, which was completely destroyed by the explosion.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who gave preliminary reports on Sunday said at least 17 bodies have been recovered, while 25 casualties are being treated for injuries from the pipeline explosion.
He added that the raging fire had displaced many residents who fled their abodes for fear of being caught up in the inferno.
Meanwhile, the Governor during the assessment tour pledged a N2 billion relief fund to alleviate losses suffered by victims, similarly, on behalf of the state government, he announced the donation of a N250 million as capital base for the relief fund.
