Senator Jibrin Isah accompanied by the Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Edward Onoja and the House of Representatives candidate was terribly embarrassed yesterday by hundreds of youths in Ankpa who came out in their numbers to jeer while demanding him to return to Governor Yahaya Bello who he said single-handedly made him Senator in 2019. The embarrassment irked the senator to the extent he poised to physically engage the youths until he was restrained by some of his acolytes and whisked away.
A day earlier, he had a similar rejection in Ogodu, Abejukolo, Olla and OjiAji (all in Omala Local Government) and a more terrible outing in Ogugu, Okpo and Imane (all in Olamaboro Local Government) area which should ordinarily been within the firm control of the current Deputy Governor’s Local government. Senator Isah had long ago adopted Chief Edward Onoja as his preferred candidate to replace Yahaya Bello having committed to oblige him other benefits based on an evolving arrangement. This is perhaps the reason for the lack of support from the APC members from Kogi East who clearly prefer the Chief of Staff, Pharm. Asuku as the next governor with the current Dekina LG council chairman, Hon Isyak Shaibu as his running mate.
Last year, Senator Jibrin Isah had a similar experience with the Bassa and Ibaji people who were outright in their rejection to his use and dump behavior. These happened on the heels of his donation of 10 cartons of noddles and 24 loaves of bread to flood-ravaged victims in Kogi East.
The APC seems to be experiencing a very bad season recently. On January 14h this year, thousands of their members decamped to the main opposition party, the PDP. Prominent amongst them are a former deputy governor of the State. Chief Simon Achuba, a leading political giant from the central area of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Karaku and a former speaker of the house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfa Imam.
