Nigerian reality TV star Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has expressed her disappointment and frustration with Nigerian feminists for their silence on the recent controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Tacha took to her Instagram page to call out Nigerian feminists, labeling them “a bunch of jokers” for their inaction.
Tacha’s criticism stems from the senate’s decision to suspend Senator Akpoti despite her allegations of sexual harassment. The 29-year-old celebrity finds it appalling that there has been no protest from citizens or feminists on this sensitive matter. “If Senator Natasha is lying, do you understand the gravity of that?” Tacha questioned. “It simply means that women can accuse any man of sexual harassment or rape and nothing will be done.”
Tacha also lamented the lack of representation of women in public office, citing the poor ratio of female senators to male lawmakers. “We have just 4 female senators in the Senate compared to 105 male lawmakers,” she noted. This, she believes, is a clear indication that women’s voices are not being heard.
The media personality further emphasized the need for closure on the senate saga, demanding that the allegations be thoroughly investigated. “If Senator Akpoti is lying, she must be properly dealt with. But if her allegations are true, then justice must be served,” Tacha asserted.
Tacha’s comments have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on the issue. While some have praised Tacha for speaking out, others have criticized her for not doing enough to support the feminist cause.
In a scathing critique, Tacha questioned the fate of ordinary women in Nigeria if a prominent figure like Senator Akpoti cannot get justice. “If a woman of that level is struggling to get justice, struggling to be heard, then who am I? What is the fate of that 18-year-old girl in Ibadan, or of that 18-year-old in Delta?” she asked.
