Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has apologized to human rights lawyer Femi Falana for his recent derogatory comments.
On Monday, VeryDarkMan appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, where he expressed regret for his remarks.
“I apologize to Femi Falana,” VeryDarkMan stated. “It’s so sad that his name was inside that audio. I couldn’t believe it as well; that is the part that irritated me more when I said I refuse to believe that he is a party to something like that”. He clarified that he never believed Falana was involved in the alleged bribery scandal surrounding crossdresser Bobrisky, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.
The controversy began when VeryDarkMan shared an audio recording of Bobrisky claiming to have bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky also alleged that her “godfather” and the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service ensured she served her six-month sentence in a private apartment instead of prison.
VeryDarkMan initially called for an investigation and alleged that Falana sought a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million. However, Falana’s legal team denied these claims, stating that he never discussed any pardon or matters with Bobrisky.
Falana’s lawyer, Taiwo Olawanle, described the allegations as “vicious, wicked, and reckless” and demanded an immediate retraction and apology. VeryDarkMan’s apology comes amid ongoing investigations into the bribery allegations.
The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions is currently investigating the matter. VeryDarkMan’s apology to Falana marks a significant development in the case.
In related news, Falz, Femi Falana’s son, has also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to VeryDarkMan to retract his statements and apologize.
