Online critic and popular social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, better known as Verydarkman (VDM), is at the center of controversy after his recent visit to China. The TikTok influencer, known for his outspoken views, announced his trip with the goal of addressing fraud and scams that have reportedly plagued Nigerian business owners and suppliers in China. VDM, who has a significant following, took to social media to reveal that he was in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on a mission to expose fraudulent activities targeting Nigerians in business transactions.
In a video posted online, VDM stated that his primary focus during the trip was to tackle online fraud involving suppliers and middlemen in China who have been accused of scamming Nigerian entrepreneurs. According to the critic, numerous complaints have surfaced from Nigerian business owners who have lost substantial amounts of money in transactions with Chinese suppliers. “Following the frequent complaints I get about a lot of Nigerians being duped by suppliers and middle men in China, I am here on a serious mission to join heads with some well-meaning Nigerians here in China to help combat online fraud between suppliers/manufacturers in China and business owners in Nigeria,” he wrote.
Verydarkman’s visit to China has sparked a wave of reactions from both supporters and critics. Some have praised his efforts to shed light on what many see as a long-standing issue of fraud in international business dealings. However, others have raised concerns about the nature of his visit and the potential risks involved in challenging foreign business practices. As VDM’s online presence continues to grow, so too does the scrutiny surrounding his actions in China.
Meanwhile, rumors about VDM’s swift departure from China began to circulate, leading to speculation about his safety and the possible complications of his mission. Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu shared his own take on the situation, claiming that Verydarkman was in trouble with the Chinese authorities. Maduagwu posted on Instagram that VDM had been summoned by Chinese police for questioning on March 2, 2025. He further suggested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria should investigate the matter.
In his Instagram post, Maduagwu wrote, “E Don happen. Information reaching me says VDM was interrogated for 2 good hours by Chinese Police yesterday. The question is WHY? This is bad. Why was he questioned for 2 hours by Chinese Police?” Maduagwu’s statements fueled further speculation and intrigue about what really transpired during VDM’s time in China and whether he had crossed any lines with the Chinese authorities.
The claims of an interrogation by Chinese police have not been independently verified, but they have sparked a significant amount of online discussion. Many are asking whether VDM’s actions could have endangered his mission or if his efforts to address fraud were met with resistance from the Chinese government.
