Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria met with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden at the State House in Abuja on April 7, 2025, as part of her three-day official visit to Nigeria. The visit, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries, has a focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, development, and other key sectors.
Crown Princess Victoria arrived at the State House at precisely 2:13 p.m., where she was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia. Following the formal welcome, the Crown Princess proceeded to a closed-door meeting with Vice President Shettima. While the details of the meeting remain private, it is understood that the discussions focused on enhancing the relationship between Sweden and Nigeria across several fields.
According to the Swedish Embassy in Nigeria, the purpose of Crown Princess Victoria’s visit is to bolster diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations. The embassy emphasized that the visit is intended to pave the way for deeper cooperation in sectors such as trade, development, and innovation. “This visit is an important step in advancing the ties between Sweden and Nigeria, particularly in the areas of commerce and sustainable development,” the Embassy stated.
During her stay, Crown Princess Victoria will meet with Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss foreign relations and strategies for enhancing bilateral cooperation. Additionally, she is expected to hold a meeting with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, which will focus on strengthening ties between Sweden and Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos.
A key event in the Crown Princess’s visit will be the official commissioning of the Swedish Trade Office in Lagos. This new office is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering stronger commercial and economic relations between Sweden and Nigeria. The establishment of this office highlights Sweden’s commitment to deepening its engagement with Nigeria’s growing economy and its dynamic business environment.
