UK-based Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega has openly defended his preference for luxury clothing and an extravagant lifestyle, explaining that it is a deliberate strategy to connect with the younger generation. In a recent interview with the BBC, Adegboyega, who is the founder of SPAC Nation Church, emphasized that his fashion choices are not about personal indulgence but are designed to inspire and engage the youth.
“I put on what is right, what connects to the generation I’m speaking to, so they are not attracted to drug dealers,” Pastor Adegboyega explained, responding to critiques regarding his lavish lifestyle. The pastor, who is often seen in high-end designer clothing and accessories, insisted that his outward appearance was a reflection of his efforts to relate to the young people in his congregation.
Adegboyega’s approach has sparked conversations, with some questioning the appropriateness of his ostentatious lifestyle. However, he clarified that his fashion choices were not an attempt to flaunt wealth but a way to bridge the gap between himself and the youth he seeks to guide. He clarified that although a UK immigration tribunal had reportedly ruled in favor of his deportation, the matter was still being reviewed. “There is no deportation order, let me make that clear,” he said, dismissing rumors that he would soon be forced to leave the country.
