More details have emerged surrounding the arrest of popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border on Monday. Witnesses speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that Bobrisky was intercepted while attempting to leave the country via the border post, raising questions about the circumstances of his arrest.
According to sources, Bobrisky arrived at the departure section of the Seme Border post at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, driving a black SUV Mercedes Benz. However, his arrival did not go unnoticed. Port Health officials on duty first flagged down the vehicle, but the driver reportedly did not stop until reaching the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint.
“Idris handed over his passport to the driver for stamping at the Nigeria Immigration Service post,” one witness revealed. As the immigration officer, Yusuf, reviewed the passport, he immediately recognized the individual inside the vehicle as Bobrisky. This prompted him to call for additional assistance. “He called the most senior officer on duty to the scene,” the source added.
The senior officer, alongside the immigration personnel, invited the Controller of Immigration at the Seme Command, Mr. Muhammad Adamu, to the scene to oversee the situation. Sources claim that the surveillance officer then returned to the vehicle to invite Bobrisky for passport capturing and clearance. However, this was just the beginning of his ordeal.
Once inside the surveillance unit for passport capturing, Bobrisky was swiftly escorted to the Controller’s office for questioning. “He was taken to the controller’s office for questioning,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The crossdresser, who had recently been the subject of public scrutiny, was held inside the office for several hours as his case unfolded.
Later in the day, a lawyer representing Bobrisky arrived at the Seme Border to inquire about the reason for his arrest. According to a separate source, the lawyer was concerned about the lack of clarity surrounding the detention of his client. “Bobrisky stayed inside the controller’s office until 4:00 p.m., when he was transported to the Lagos State Command of the NIS for further investigation,” the source disclosed.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) later confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest in a statement issued on Monday. Mr. Kenneth Udo, the Public Relations Officer of NIS, explained that the arrest was made due to Bobrisky being “a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.” He further clarified that the crossdresser had been attempting to exit the country when intercepted.
“The NIS intercepted Bobrisky at the Seme Border in keeping with its commitment to securing the borders,” Udo explained. “He was undergoing interrogation and would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.” The NIS statement raised further speculation about the nature of the investigation and what the “public concern” might entail.
While details regarding the exact reasons for Bobrisky’s arrest remain unclear, the incident has prompted a flurry of reactions on social media, with many wondering whether the arrest is connected to his controversial public persona or other undisclosed legal matters. The investigation into Bobrisky’s activities is ongoing, and it remains to be seen how the case will develop in the coming days.
