Sunday Igboho Says “If Nigeria Isn’t Working, It’s Better We Go Our Separate Ways” in Call for Disintegration

Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has once again advocated for the disintegration of Nigeria. In a video that surfaced online on Thursday, Igboho expressed his belief that if Nigeria is unable to function as a unified nation, it would be better for its various ethnic groups to go their separate ways.

The video, filmed at an airport in the United Kingdom, features Igboho explaining the reasons behind his separatist stance. He pointed to issues such as widespread corruption, insecurity, and Nigeria’s struggling economy, claiming these problems have led to a loss of patriotism among Nigerians. Igboho argued that these factors have made it increasingly difficult for people to identify with the nation.

“Even at the airport, there is no security. Your belongings can be stolen from your bag in Nigerian airports. These are some of the things that discourage people from being proud of Nigeria,” Igboho remarked, highlighting the lack of basic security and order as major concerns contributing to Nigerians’ disillusionment with their country.

He further emphasized how these negative experiences discourage citizens from associating themselves with Nigeria. “Such experiences make us hesitant to identify as Nigerians,” Igboho said, adding that these feelings of disillusionment are among the main reasons driving the push for separation.

Igboho has long been an advocate for the creation of a Yoruba nation, and his remarks about Nigeria’s struggles reflect his belief that if the country cannot function effectively, the best option would be for different ethnic groups to govern themselves independently. “If Nigeria isn’t working, it’s better we go our separate ways,” he stated, reaffirming his position on the matter.

In his speech, Igboho also praised the potential of Yoruba youths, claiming that their knowledge and global experience could help build a stronger Yoruba nation. “Our Yoruba youths, who have traveled the world, are equipped with knowledge and experience. When they return to Yoruba land, they will use it to build and transform the nation into one that mirrors Europe,” he added, expressing confidence in the ability of the Yoruba people to prosper on their own.

The separatist leader’s comments have sparked strong reactions, with some Yoruba nationalists voicing support, while others criticize his divisive rhetoric. Igboho’s calls for secession come amid growing ethnic and regional tensions in Nigeria, especially in light of rising insecurity and economic challenges.
