Controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reportedly left Nigeria just days after being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His sudden departure has sparked interest, especially given the legal challenges he has faced recently.
In a series of videos posted to his Instagram story on Monday morning, Bobrisky announced his travel plans without disclosing his destination. “See you soon, Nigeria. This girl bought a first-class ticket three times; that’s over 30 million. Raise the bar for this girl,” he boasted, showcasing his extravagant lifestyle even amidst ongoing controversies.
Humorously, he commented on the disfigurement of his passport photo, stating, “That passport disfigured my picture,” adding a light-hearted touch to his announcement. This playful tone contrasted sharply with the serious legal troubles that have shadowed him in recent weeks.
Bobrisky’s departure follows a tumultuous week marked by a dramatic incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Reports indicated that he was stopped and removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight while trying to travel to London. Following the altercation, he claimed to have sustained injuries and took to social media to inform his followers about the incident.
After being removed from the flight, Bobrisky was taken to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning. He faced allegations of attempting to bribe officials with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him. Despite the serious nature of these claims, he was released on bail after reportedly denying the bribery allegations during his confession to the commission.
Bobrisky’s legal woes began in April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse. Initially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, he reportedly spent only three weeks in confinement before being discreetly moved to an undisclosed private location, raising questions about his treatment.
The situation escalated further in September when social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released an audio recording that allegedly featured Bobrisky discussing the bribery of EFCC officials.
