A cleaner, Samson Daniel, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for stealing N900,000 from his employer in Kaduna State.
The Magistrate at Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court , Ibrahim Emmanuel, gave the verdict on Tuesday.
He did, however, give Daniel the option of paying a N30,000 fine or N500,000 in restitution to the complainant, Habiba Hamza and also said that if the convict fails to return the complainant, he will be sentenced to an additional year in prison.
Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, had told the court that Daniel committed the crime on January 30, 2023 in Barnawa, Kaduna.
Leo claimed that the defendant, who works as a cleaner for the complainant, broke into her bedroom and stole N900,000.
He claimed that during the course of the police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and that N400,000 was recovered from him.
