Nigerian comedian Adedayo Martin, better known as Deeone, has weighed in on Don Jazzy’s recent N100 million donation to the NGO of his online critic, Vincent Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). VDM, who had previously criticized Don Jazzy and other celebrities for supporting crossdresser Bobrisky during his jail sentence, accepted the donation and even prayed for Don Jazzy, despite their past disagreements. This unexpected change of heart from VDM has sparked widespread conversation online.
Deeone, who often speaks his mind, took to social media to share his thoughts on the situation. He mocked VDM for accepting the large sum from Don Jazzy, saying, “I am disappointed in Don Jazzy don collect money from Don Jazzy o.” Deeone pointed out that VDM, who had once openly criticized Don Jazzy, had now received a significant donation from the same person he had insulted.
The comedian noted that Don Jazzy had remained silent when VDM lashed out earlier but still went ahead to make the generous donation to VDM’s NGO. “This Don Jazzy na very petty person o,” Deeone said, suggesting that Don Jazzy had quietly observed VDM’s insults and chose to ignore them, recognizing that they came from a place of hardship. “He no talk, he just look am say ‘you, you’re not the one speaking, it is poverty,’” he added, implying that Don Jazzy’s silence was a strategic response.
Deeone also touched on the public backlash Don Jazzy received when he donated to Bobrisky during his jail time, which was widely criticized. “When Don Jazzy gave Bobrisky money, we all criticized him, but now, when he gives VDM money, it’s seen positively,” Deeone remarked. He highlighted the hypocrisy he saw in the differing reactions, questioning the mixed standards in public perception.
He continued, “This life no be to just dey talk because that same money wey dem give Bobrisky it was bad, but as dem give you, it is good.” Deeone’s comments reflect the double standard he perceives when it comes to how donations are viewed depending on the recipient.
Deeone also found irony in how VDM, who had once insulted Don Jazzy, was now praying for him after receiving the donation. “Don Jazzy God bless you, I no even know whether to pray for you or to swear for you because e be like say people wey dey talk to you anyhow, na im you dey give money,” he said. This comment added to the notion that Don Jazzy’s generosity is seen as a subtle lesson in forgiveness and even a response to criticism.
He wrapped up his remarks by pointing out how people who criticize Don Jazzy end up benefiting from his kindness. “The same Don Jazzy wey VDM insult, now VDM dey pray for am, dey pray for him generation and children’s children,” Deeone said. He seemed both amused and perplexed by the way people’s attitudes shift after receiving support from those they had previously criticized.
Deeone’s commentary underscored the complexity of celebrity relationships and the mixed emotions that come with public figures extending generosity, especially to those who have been critical. While Don Jazzy’s donation has been praised by some as an act of kindness, others, like Deeone, have raised questions about the underlying motives.
